Pursuing happiness, but through what means?

Now, here’s to the people that show up every morning working the nine to five with a smile on their face. Even when they know that their heart is trapped in a box of never-ending tornados of ebony. Here’s to the kid who stares through the window at his mother. He stares at her for so long that he loses sight of her and sees his own reflection. He sees the face of a child weary and desperate. He looks again at his mother who he sees as the devil holding the forbidden fruit in front of his face. He sees her, but only feels her neglect. On the other side of the window, here is to his mother. His mother that finds the strength to work her three jobs in the sadness she receives in never seeing the people she works to raise. Here’s to the everyday struggle to survive. It is a cutthroat world. Eat or be eaten. Most of us will try to be the one eating. But how we go about eating is what truly shapes life.
